Occupation: Justice and Peace Program Officer/Acting Women and Youth Program Officer – Peace Educators and Social transformation South Sudan.
1 What was your first connection with Mission 21 or Basel Mission?
I knew Basel Mission as a partner/donor in the New Sudan Council of Churches (NSCC), where I used to work (1994-2005). Later on, it was named Mission 21. Now, I work closely with Mission21 on the SSCC programs for the empowerment of women and youth, peace building, trauma healing, economic stability and strengthening their roles using UNSCR1325; Training of Trainer on women’s right – to ending Gender Based Violence against women/girls.
2 What have been your contributions to the empowerment of women?
Mobilizing and sensitizing women’s groups at the rural/urban areas, raising their collective voice on common issues and changing their context in the communities.
Building trust and self confidence of women and rural women in a peaceful work: helping them to speak and break the cycle of violence inflicted on them (negative cultural practices, oppressive laws).
Mentoring women who are family leaders, so they can become an example to others. Empowering and guiding young women so they can achieve their dreams.
With courage, skills, and knowledge women are overcoming their stepping stones and transforming them into achievements in life. Trained women in conflict resolutions/leadership and governance are using the new skills and knowledge to participate in the search for peaceful non-violent solutions to problems in the community.
3 Why do you think the empowerment of women is important in the Faith Based Organizations?
Women are the nurturers of life. They are good listeners and have a strong heart, ready to act whenever need arises. They are truthful in faith endeavors, committed and compliant in their calling, and ready to go the extra mile for others. They are the connecting threads that create a web of people in their diversity. Women are concerned, focused leaders. Women are excellent at teaching and reaching God’s creations. Women know NO borders.
