What was your first connection with Mission 21 or Basel Mission?

By developing a project about women autonomy through education and work. We developed educational actions, rights and leadership, accompanied by economical initiatives. It took place in a marginal area of Lima, Peru’s Capital. The women were adults, single, with children and very poor, mostly from rural areas.

What have been your contributions to the empowerment of women?

During this project I taught leadership. At the church, in the women’s department, I work with the equality between women and men issue.

Why do you think the empowerment of women is important in the Faith Based Organizations?

In the majority of our churches there is still a strong patriarchal structure. But we have to keep visible the participation, importance and leadership of women shown in the entire Bible. That importance is not only inside the church, but also outside. There is a constant cry for the right of a just, decent and peaceful life for everyone, and especially for the less favored, as women are.
