1) What was your first connection with Mission 21 or Basel Mission?

My first connection with Mission 21 was as a volunteer for the Regional Coordination Office in Jakarta.

2) What have been your contributions to the empowerment of women?

Designing and monitoring a program for women of the income generation in the villages under the Pusat Pembangunan Wanita (Women Development Centre) of the protestant church in Sabah, Malaysia. Putting gender issues in the subject of Christian ethics and pastoral counselling, to rise awareness among the students, in my classes at Bible’s School Centre PCS. Facilitating trainings of gender issues in disaster and emergencies.

3) Why do you think the empowerment of women is important in the Faith Based Organizations?

Empowering women is a very important thing in the Faith Based Organization because women can make positive changes in the world if they have capacities and honesty. Most of the Faith Organizations, especially churches always use a reason of faith to discriminate women. We empower and strengthen them in order to gain capacities and ability so the women can speak honestly about their lives and needs. We also manage the program for women of the income generation.

Most members of the women groups trust that God helps them on their way to Equality. Therefore, we cannot ignore their faith about it. We just support them and encourage them to do more. The program is community based. Founded on the needs of the women and on what they want to do. Most participants are church members, especially from PCS. However, in the three groups there are also four members of the Women Moslem Church. I strongly believe that if women can speak out what they want and need, at least people must give their attention and listen to them.
